All passwords are set to "abcd"
The website is: https://www.ixl.com/
2. PICTURE DAY is scheduled for October 17th, 2017!
Math:
We are continuing to work on Addition and Subtraction facts within 10. We also have been learning our Doubles Facts and Near-Doubles Facts. I will post these facts at the bottom for practice at home!
We have started adding and subtracting on ten-frames as well. We are even working on thinking about Addition Facts to help us to solve Subtraction Facts!
Some vocabulary words we are working on are: addend, add to, addition equation, sum, equal, part-part-whole, more, whole, take away, subtract, minus, equals, part, fewer, difference, count on (addition), count back (subtraction).
Reading:
In Reading, we started the past two weeks with an introduction to our Amazing Words: . We then clapped and cheered our High-Frequency (Sight) Words: was, yellow, do, you, look. Last week's Sight Words were: are, have, that, they, two. Last week, we looked at words that have a short o sound (top, mop, rot), d /d/ sound (dog, do), l /l/ sound (last, lot), and h /h/ sound (hot, how). The week before, we looked at words with the short i sound (in, is), f /f/ sound (fish, first), b /b/ sound (but, by), and the g /g/ sound (got, great). We then began our stories of the week, "Tip and Tam" by Mary-Nell Lee, illustrated by Hector Borlasca, and "The Big Top" by Molly O'Keefe, Illustrated by Hector Borlasca. Ask your student to read these words to you! We also talked a lot about characters, plot (beginning, middle, and end), and setting. Talk with your student about what characters are (people or animals, can be real or fake, etc.). Setting is where the story takes place! The plot is what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story!
Writing:
In Writing, we worked on writing about one thing we did over the weekend ("Over the weekend, I..."), and we talked about how we can choose a topic to write about. Feel free to ask your student about a topic they have written about so far in first grade! (Hint: If they say they forgot, one of our topics was "If you were the teacher, what would you do?" and "What can you do in the Fall?")
I am looking forward to another wonderful week in Room 203!
