Hello Families!
With the craziness of October behind us, it is time to brace ourselves for the wonderful, busy season coming our way! Here is an update on what we have been up to in Team 1A!
Updates:
Reading:
We have wrapped up our Review Unit, and we are trekking through Unit 1 in our Reading Street Curriculum. This week, Week 3, we are working on our story The Big Blue Ox. Our Amazing Words are: past, produce, transportation, danger, enormous, snuggle, powerful, and serve. Our Sight Words are: blue, help, from, little, get, use.
Our Reading Unit Question is: How are people and animals important to one another?
Our Question of the WEEK is: How do animals help people?
We have been continuing to work on identifying the Setting, Plot, and Characters in our stories.
For Phonics, we have worked on short a, short i, and this week is short o.
Math:
In math, we just wrapped up adding and subtracting within 10. We focused on Adding Doubles, Near Doubles, and Doubles Plus 2. We also practiced our Addition Facts to 20 with the use of Open Number Lines. Counting On, and Making a Friendly 10. Here is a video that we used! www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDqbCfplYrg
For the next few weeks, we will be working on our Subtraction Fact Strategies. We will be learning how to count to subtract, make a friendly 10 to help us subtract, Fact Families, and using addition to help us subtract. Basically, we will be investigating how Addition is related to Subtraction.
Writing:
In Writing, we have been moving through our Personal Narrative Unit. Soon, we will be working on creating one finished draft of our writing! :)
Science:
In Science, we have been learning about how the seasons change, Apple trees, and the Pumpkin Life Cycle!
Social Studies:
In Social Studies, we have been looking at how to be kind, how to be good friends, and how to build a positive classroom community.
Please feel free to work with your student on any of these things! The more reinforcement, the better! :)
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!
